THE SOULS OF AUSCHWITZ.

When the last tour is done, and the gates are locked for another night until it all begins again the next day, a silence descends over the place that is Auschwitz and Birkenau.

The people that have left remain silent as they absorb what they have seen and heard and felt throughout a long slow and difficult tour. They go there because they want to see and remember what evil can do if allowed take hold.

They also want to honor all that have died there and those who have experienced unbelievable torture and suffering. The experience for them is difficult but ultimately life affirming as they return to their own lives, but the memories remain forever and well they should.

The memories need to remain as a reminder, to be the best they can be and to allow goodness and kindness always be the priority over evil.

And what of the souls left behind, the souls who have died there, who have endured suffering and pain way beyond anything we can comprehend.

I like to think the souls of Auschwitz and Birkenhau bear witness to all of us who visit every day.

I like to think they know why we come and by doing so we are acknowledging their suffering.

I like to think these souls feel unforgotten as they see us remembering.

What a lonely place it must have been for them, hidden way from any semblance of normality.

I like to think they feel less lonely and maybe even feel some semblance of love.

I like to think people will continue to visit and remember and acknowledge the souls of Auschwitz.

Because I for one like to believe that there is good.
