A Doggy Tale..

MOLLYS MAKES FRIENDS

Molly is a little big dog, a scraggy little hairy mutt that lives in a shed at the bottom of a big garden. Now she’s not the cutest looking little big dog and her legs always seem too big for her chubby little body. That’s why she is a little big dog. Her face looks a bit squishy and her nose is so flat that it constantly drips when she runs so she tries not to run too much anymore.

When she sits down her legs kind of pop up under her belly. Molly doesn’t know what she looks like and doesn’t really care. She does know that people give her funny looks sometimes, and when her owners used to bring her for walks she would see people petting other dogs and saying “what a cute little dog you are” but they never did it to her She knows she’s some kind of a dog and on the inside she is full of lots of love and niceness and that’s all that matters to her. She just wants to be loved and cuddled and played with.

Her owners work every day and leave her all alone, in fact they don’t really notice her at all. Molly sometimes wonders why they even bothered getting her. “It wasn’t so sad at the beginning though” she thought. She used to sleep inside at the fire all the time and even went for walks every day, sometimes to a lovely sandy place. Her owners didn’t even mind when she would shake herself in the car on the way home, spraying the seats with sand and water and all sorts of bits that would get stuck in her long scraggly hair. It was great fun so it was, but now that seems like a far far away memory .

One day, [she can’t really remember how long ago but it seems like forever and ever ] everything changed and she found herself being put out every night into the shed. That wasn’t soo

bad but then she was left there during the day as well. Her owners stopped noticing her and they always seem really sad.

Every morning they leave her out to run around and when they feed her she does her very best to make them smile, spinning around and around prancing up and down just to make them notice her. It never seems to work though as they just put food in her dish and without as much as a belly rub they head off to work leaving her all alone. “I’ll just have to keep on trying” she says to herself every single day.

Molly is weary and sad of being lonely. “Woof” she would wail regularly with her tail drooping at the same time. “I wish I had someone to play with” she often thought as she sat in her little old shed which was warm and cosy enough but didn’t really feel very happy. One spring morning, she realised the shed door was left open. Without a second thought she peeped out, gradually going a bit further and a bit more until she was slap dash in the middle of the big flower bed in the middle of the garden.. It was so overgrown that when she tried to run through it, she got stuck in all sorts of branches and green stuff.

She explored for awhile sniffing in between the flowers peeing here and there as she went. She sniffed a few battered looking teddy’s but they smelt of nothing so she just continued on her adventure running around and around in a circle just because, well just because she could, and she was having sooo much fun. Sure she was dizzy with the freedom of it all and nearly collapsed with the excitement of being out of her little old shed all on her own. Her nose was dripping all over the place as well as she had forgotten all about how running made her nose run too!

Flopping down on the grass she panted and panted and panted some more. After a few minutes she jumped up and went a little further towards the gate which surprise surprise was open too. “Mmmm” she thought as she tilted her head ever so slightly “What now?”

Not one to miss an opportunity for an adventure she decided to whizz out the garden gate and explore a little bit more “sure what would be the harm in that” she thought. Skipping happily along the road she thought she could hear a sound like someone crying. She knew that sound because sometimes she hears her mammy owner cry. With her nosiness [she has a big flat nosey drippy nose] getting the better of her, she followed the sound to a nearby garden and found a little girl in floods of tears.

Molly thought, “Ahhhhh I know what it’s like to be sad. I’ll see if I can make her smile, even a teensey weeny bit ” Molly edged closer to the girl, wiggling and waggling her tail making all sorts of little sounds until eventually the little girl started to pet and rub Molly’s belly. “Oooo nicey nicey nice ” thought Molly, she was so lost in the happiness of being cuddled, she forgot about trying to make the little girl feel better.

But then she noticed the little girls tears had stopped and she was smiling, in fact she was on the ground rolling around with Molly too. They stayed like that for ages and ages so they did, lost in their own little magical moment of happiness.

“Mary” a voice called “come in now we have to go shopping”. Mary jumped up, not before giving Molly the biggest wettest kiss ever.

“Will you be my dog” she whispered into Mollys ear. . “Ohh yes” thought Molly wagging her tail as hard as she could. “I’ll be your best friend.” “And I’m going to call you Jessie” said the little girl happily. “You are the nicest dog I’ve ever seen” said the little girl as she skipped happily in to the house. Molly nearly died with happiness that the little girl saw her niceness.

As Molly left the garden she spotted two dogs walking with their owner, it sort of made her feel sad and even a bit jealous now, she didn’t know what jealous was but she just had a strange feeling inside that didn’t feel nice. “My owners never bring me anywhere” she thought. She decided to follow the doggy man who tried to shusshhhh her away but in the end he just gave up.

The dogs looked at her suspiciously but Molly didn’t mind. [She was used to people giving her funny looks.] “Where do you think you’re going?” the bigger one growled at Molly.” “Leave her alone you big bully” said the little one,” as she snapped at the bigger dog who strutted off sheepishly with her tail between her legs.

“Stick with me” said the little dog “I’m small but I’m mighty fierce, them big dogs are all woof and no guff so they are, I’m Dora by the way and that other yoke is called Tess!” Molly had a lovely walk around the whole estate and felt as happy as anything. When they got back to the doggy mans house, he said kindly “off you go, you can come again tomorrow if you want”. I don’t know your name but sure these two mutts are Tess and Dora so I’ll call you Dotty for now”.

Molly was feeling hungry [she was a very busy little big dog after all!!]. She decided to take a shortcut home for food. Off she skipped happily up the hill into the little crying girl’s garden, out on to the road and through a shortcut into another garden. She was in a world of her own but an empty doggy dish outside a door caught her eye and her nose!!She went to investigate just as a lady appeared, frightening the life out of Molly so much that she flopped down and crawled along the ground looking sheepish and shaky. She knew the “belly on ground” pose worked sometimes when she misbehaved or felt she was in trouble. People just couldn’t resist the cuteness of it especially when she did a little squeakey sound to go with it.

“Where did you come from”, the lady said as she rubbed and petted her gently. The kind lady filled the dish with nuts and sat on the step as Molly helped herself to the tasty treats.”Ahhh I wonder who you belong to” she said sadly. Molly would love to tell her but she couldn’t talk, you see she’s a dog and dogs don’t talk so they don’t, but they feel and hear and sense all sorts of things in humans.

In fact they often know how a human is feeling before the human does. Instead she just sat beside the lovely lady because she could feel the lovely lady was sad. The lovely lady told Molly all about her dog Honey who had just died and how much she was loved by everyone. Molly felt sad again...for the lady and for herself because no one seemed to love her like Honey was loved

The lovely lady and Molly sat together for a long time .Molly eventually falling into a contented doze. “Come on doggy you’ll have to go” said the lady smiling, “I think Honey sent you to make me feel better” “I hope you will come see me again, I don’t know your name though...sure I’ll just call you Bonzo!.

Molly wandered off again feeling more content than she had in a very long time “This has been the very bestest day” she thought as she ran in home. She decided she would sit in her shed when her owners arrived and act like she never even noticed the door open, that way she wouldn’t get into trouble!!.[Molly is a clever little big dog!!]

As she skipped over the wet grass she jumped when she saw a man trying to break the kitchen window. Barking really loudly she gave him such a fright he banged his head on the broken glass. With his roars and her barks, the nice doggy walking man came running in, pushing the bad man to the ground .Molly decided the best plan for her was to sit in her shed, [remember she didnt want to get into trouble with her owners!!!.]

Next thing she knew there was a police man, her owners, and the nice doggy man, all saying what a great dog Molly was. Molly slept that night in her shed, but now with the door opened for the first time in forever. She could wander around the garden as she pleased. She couldn’t wait for tomorrow so she could visit all her new friends. She happily dozed off snuggling down under her blanket and dreaming of all sorts of loveliness and niceness.

The next morning her owners were much nicer to her and even let her inside the house for awhile. Molly felt really happy, even happier when her mammy owner allowed her up on the couch for a cuddle. Molly tried to nuzzle on to her lap but her mammy owner’s tummy seemed to get in the way. “Ooooo” thought molly “that’s strange” but then she could hear a little gurgling sound coming from the inside and she just knew that she was going to have another new friend to play with very very soon.

Her mammy owner smiled warmly at her, “you know don’t you Molly there’s a little baby in my tummy” she said and in that moment Molly and her owner sat silently allowing the love to just be there. Molly, being a dog couldn’t talk but sure there was no need for words. In that moment everything inside Molly, all the nice stuff just flowed to the surface and it was magic.
